A pattern we see every week
You flew to Turkey, had your crowns fitted, left the clinic with a beautiful smile. Weeks or months later, something cracked. Or a crown came loose. Or you noticed gaps forming between the gumline and the porcelain.
You messaged the clinic. Maybe they replied quickly at first, asking for photos. Then the responses slowed down. They told you to "come back for a free fix." But nobody offered to cover flights, accommodation, or time off work. And nobody put anything in writing.
If this sounds familiar, you are dealing with one of the most common post-treatment problems reported by international dental patients in Turkey.
From our data: In the last 90 days alone, we tracked 53 complaints from international patients about crowns that cracked, fell out, or showed visible defects within months of being fitted. The real number is likely much higher.
Why does this happen?
There are several common causes, and understanding them helps you build a stronger case:
- Rushed preparation. High-volume clinics sometimes compress a treatment that should take 7 to 10 days into 4 or 5 days. This does not give the dental lab enough time to produce precise crowns, and it does not give your gums enough time to heal before fitting.
- Poor bonding or cementation. If crowns are not bonded correctly, they will loosen over time. This is a technique issue, not a material issue.
- Substandard materials. While most reputable clinics use high-quality zirconia, some use cheaper alternatives that are more prone to chipping and cracking.
- Inadequate tooth preparation. If the underlying tooth was not prepared correctly, the crown sits poorly, creates pressure points, and eventually fails.
- Bite alignment issues. If your bite was not checked thoroughly after fitting, uneven pressure on certain crowns will cause them to crack over time.
What to do right now
- See a dentist at home immediately. Get an independent assessment of the damage. Ask them to note what they observe, take X-rays, and provide a written report. This is your most important piece of evidence.
- Document everything. Photograph the damage from multiple angles. Save every message you have exchanged with the clinic. Keep your original treatment plan, payment receipts, and any guarantee certificate they gave you.
- Send a formal complaint to the clinic. Not a WhatsApp message. A structured email that states what was done, what went wrong, what evidence you have, and what resolution you expect. Set a clear deadline (14 days is reasonable).
- Check your guarantee. Most Turkish dental clinics offer guarantees on crowns, typically 5 to 10 years. Read the terms carefully. Some clinics add conditions that make the guarantee almost impossible to use from abroad.
- Consider your payment method. If you paid by credit card, you may be eligible for a chargeback. Contact your card provider and explain the situation. The independent dental report from Step 1 will strengthen your case significantly.
Watch out for this tactic: Many clinics will offer to "fix it for free" if you fly back, but refuse to put anything in writing about what will be done, who will do it, or what happens if the same problem occurs again. A genuine warranty repair should come with written terms.
What the law says
Turkish consumer protection law applies to services provided in Turkey, regardless of the patient's nationality. If the treatment was below the standard of care, the clinic has an obligation to remedy the situation or compensate the patient.
Since January 2026, all international patients must also be covered by Komplikasyon Sigortasi (complication insurance). If your clinic did not arrange this, they were not compliant with current regulations, which strengthens your position.
How we help
We are an independent patient advocacy service, physically based in Turkey. We work on behalf of international patients who are dealing with dental complications from Turkish clinics.
What we do:
- Review your case and documentation at no charge
- Communicate directly with the clinic in Turkish, on your behalf
- Prepare a professional case file that holds up in formal complaints
- Escalate to the Turkish Ministry of Health or consumer protection bodies if needed
- Apply sustained, structured pressure until the clinic engages properly
