A patient from the UK contacted us after receiving a quote from a clinic in Antalya for 20 porcelain veneers — a full upper and lower "Hollywood Smile" package. The total quoted price was attractive, the clinic's Instagram looked impressive, and the coordinator was responsive and friendly. The patient was ready to book flights.

What the audit found

We reviewed the treatment plan documentation the clinic had provided. The plan listed 20 porcelain veneers across all visible teeth. What it did not contain was any record of alternative treatment options being discussed or considered.

There was no documentation of whether teeth whitening had been discussed as a less invasive option for discolouration. No record of whether composite bonding had been considered for the teeth with minor chips. No note explaining why every single tooth in the plan required a porcelain veneer rather than a less invasive approach. The plan started from "20 veneers" rather than from the patient's individual dental situation.

The verdict: Amber

We rated this plan Amber — proceed with caution. The plan wasn't necessarily wrong in its clinical recommendations. But the absence of documented alternatives meant the patient couldn't make a fully informed decision. Were all 20 veneers genuinely the best option? Perhaps. But without a record of that clinical reasoning, there was no way to know.

What happened next

The patient went back to the clinic with specific questions from our audit. The clinic revised the plan to include a clear rationale for each tooth and documented the alternatives that had been considered. The final plan was more transparent, the patient felt more confident, and the treatment proceeded on a properly informed basis.
